No. Although your student may be completing their work at home, we are a tuition-free online public charter school option available for K-12 students throughout Oregon.
My child is new to this school, where can I find more information about MOCA?
Many questions can be answered by reading the 2022-2023 Handbook. This document can be found on Connexus® in the Virtual Library.
Do we need to have internet to be enrolled at MOCA?
Yes. Households are responsible for obtaining an Internet service provider. Internet is a necessity at our school. Whether you have Wi-Fi enabled or a ethernet cord that you plug into your computer, one is vital to be successful at MOCA. Households may request a subsidy towards the cost of your household Internet service. Please refer to the school handbook for the payment schedule details. The handbook is available to families after the initial enrollment registration and can also be found above in a previous questions.
Can we complete our daily work from our smartphone or tablet?
Although these methods are good temporary solutions, they should not be relied on as a permanent solution. Students should have a reliable computer (if not provided with one) that they can have access to during their scheduled school time. Although we regularly test our education management system, many mobile devices may not be fully compatible with third-party curriculum platforms that are accessed through Pearson Online Classroom. These include: Chromebook, iPad, iPhone, iPod, Kindle, and Android phones & tablets.
Will we be provided with a computer? If so, can we receive more than one if we have multiple students?
MOCA families may request one computer per household. If you choose to use your own computer, that is great. Many mobile devices may not be fully compatible with third-party curriculum platforms that are accessed through Pearson Online Classroom. Will we be provided with a printer or scanner?

What if my materials haven't arrived yet?
Get started on your work as soon as possible! If you have a computer at home, one that you can borrow from a friend or family member or have a smartphone or tablet, get started right away! You should already have access to your courses and lessons. All books are also available digitally. Your materials will arrive soon. Please allow 5-7 business days from the day materials were shipped out.
I haven't talked to my student's teacher yet, can they still log in?
Please see the answer above. Although materials and speaking to your teacher are important components, it's important to get logged in and begin working on your lessons right away. Your teacher will reach out to welcome you to their class and answer questions within the first 7 days of enrollment. Phone calls are one of the many ways we build relationships. HERE are some tips to prepare you and your family for these interactions.
How do I help my child with their schoolwork?
Parental involvement is crucial at all levels at MOCA. Teachers rely on Caretakers and/or Learning Coaches to be the face-to-face learning support at home. While each student is placed in a homeroom class and can can reach out to any of their teachers with questions, answers may not be as instant as they can be with their Caretaker or Learning Coach. Does Connections Academy provide services and accommodations for students with disabilities?
For students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Connections Academy provides virtual special education services that range from consultation, curriculum accommodation and modification, collaboration with learning coaches and general education teachers, to virtual direct instruction. Connections Academy provides students with IEPs with related services as determined by the IEP team. For eligible students with disabilities who do not require special education, yet need accommodations in the virtual environment, Connections Academy may develop (as needed) and implement Section 504 plans that detail appropriate accommodations and modifications.
